Cocktail for Mac can manually trigger maintenance scripts, optimize inactive RAM manually or periodically, toggle Spotlight indexing for chosen drives, force special startup modes, and access a lot of the hidden Finder and core app settings, to name just a few options. By "hidden," we mean those settings that are not directly available through a graphical interface and are not listed under System Preferences. While these are generally modifiable via Terminal with "defaults write ," sometimes you just wish there were a simpler way. Thanks to Cocktail, these tasks are now simple to perform. The app's interface is not shiny but is well laid out and does its job quite well, given the important number of functions available. The app functions as expected and is regularly updated to avoid any bad surprises.

Download Cocktail from the top of this page, then double click the disk image file to mount it on your desktop. This disk image contains an application that you need to drag to your Applications folder. After you have installed Cocktail you can eject the disk by either dragging it to the trash or pressing the Eject icon in the Finder sidebar.
